Vytautas Kalinauskas who had already created his famous illustrations to Goethe’s Faust and Dante’s Divine Comedy used to be asked by people: who did he think he was: a printmaker, set designer or cinema designer? His answer used to be very simple: an artist. He was artistic, elegant and intellectual. According to the art historian Algimantas Patašius, “a nobleman without a coat of arms“ who had become a sworn aesthetic dissident.
