Marat Sargsyan's "Father" has triumphed in one of Europe's largest documentary film festivals
With these words the Jury of the International Documentary Film Festival Visions du Reel (Switzerland) based its decision to give the award for the best medium length film to the director Marat Sargsyan's film "Father" which was presented to the foreign audience for the first time.
Visions Du Reel is one of the most important European documentary film festivals, which stands out with its special program which does not indulge to popular trends and presents exclusively auteur cinema. In his account of the selection process, the festival director Luciano Barisone said that first the TV-format films are rejected, which, unfortunately, are increasing each year. This year, the selection committee received 3,500 applications, of which a program of 110 documentary films was made, based on three main themes - reflection, exploration and discoveries.
