Principal photography of the debut film of director Danielius Minkevičius "Užmarštis" (Oblivion) began in Vilnius. The film explores themes of the human self, the past and family relationships. This feature film is a psychological drama, where the protagonists try to make sense of their identity by delving into the viscous and vague events of the past. The leading roles in the film are played by Gabija Bargailaitė and Dainius Gavenonis.
The action of “Užmarštis” starts on the Day of Remembrance of the Dead. While visiting her mother's grave with her aunt and her little daughter, the main character Marija, a stripper, finds fresh flowers laid by a stranger. Maria suspects that the flowers were laid by her long-lost biological father, who was rarely mentioned in the family and only in a bad light. Driven by curiosity, the heroine begins to search for her father, until she discovers that the man she has demonized all her life is an intelligent teacher of a painting group for adults.
"This film is a memory detective story. When I was writing it, I was most inspired by human memories, their unreliability and the fact that we still rely on them trying to understand who we are. But what if you are not sure of the existence of your core memories?" - says director and co-writer Danielius Minkevičius.
Danielius Minkevičius co-wrote the screenplay with Kornelijus Stučkus. The screenplay was further refined at cinema workshops: Ekran+ (Warsaw, Poland), MFI Script 2 Film (Rhodes, Greece). Cinematographer Oskaras Abramavičius, production designer Aurimas Akšys, costume designer Akvilė Klimavičiūtė, make-up artist Julita Brazis, producer Ieva Norvilienė. The film is produced by UAB Tremora.
Production of the film is partly financed by the Lithuanian Film Centre (LFC) and Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT). The film is produced using the corporate tax relief.
