The bestselling debut novel of Rimantas Kmita from Šiauliai, “Pietinia Kronikas”, which has been turned into a film, will be released on the big screens of our country only on 24 January. However, the film is already living its own life and starting its tour of foreign film festivals. What's more, the cast of “Southern Chronicles” is receiving not only applause, but also great reviews abroad.

For his role in the film, Džiugas Grinys has already won the European Shooting Stars Award, which is given to the rising stars of European cinema. Now it has been announced that the other star of the film, actor Robertas Petraitis, has been selected as one of the eight best young, emerging European actors at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and will be awarded the Black Nights Stars Discovery Campus ICDA Award.

The world premiere of “Southern Chronicles” will take place at the International Film Festival Cottbus in Germany on 6 and 7 November. The film is included in the main competition programme.

"It is both a local and a universal story, conveying the scent of adulthood and a specific way of rebellion. It depicts the transformation of society and immerses the viewer in the experiences, emotional terrains and boundaries of the 1990s,” – this is how the festival programmers describe the film.

After this premiere, the film will go to “Litauisches Kino Goes Berlin”, a Lithuanian film festival in Berlin that has been running for 14 years. “Southern Chronicles” will open the festival on 8 November. It will then take part in the Young Audience Competition of the Lübeck Nordic Film Days international festival. The festival is being held now for the 66th time, and is one of the oldest festivals in Europe showcasing cinema from Central and Eastern Europe.

On 20 November, the film will be screened at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in the Baltic Film Competition programme.
