Valdas Navasaitis was born in 1960, Kaunas. In 1977–1982 he studied at the Lithuanian Agricultural Academy, Forest Industry Department. In 1983–1986 he studied at the Institute of Ecology (Lithuania) and Institute of Zoology (St. Petersburg). In 1983–1986 he worked as a director, scriptwriter and cameraman at the Kaunas amateur film studio Banga. In 1984 together with the director Šarūnas Bartas he went on an expedition in Siberia (Eastern part of Sayan mountains) to shoot the film Tofalaria. In 1988–1993 he studied film directing at the Moscow State Cinematography Institute. In 1992–1997 he was creating films at the studio Kinema. In 1999 he founded the Image and Sound Studio and is its leader. Navasaitis is a member of the Lithuanian Cinematographers’ Union, Association of Producers and Cinema Council at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
